A Very Death Cab New Year

Happy New Year ye ol' fools. 

For me; Millennium Biltmore. Death Cab For Cutie (Joining him on the bill are Matthew Caws of Nada Surf and Andrew Kenny of American Analog Set).  Flaming Lips.  VIP.  Giant Village.  Shannon.  2006.  Casey's Subterranean Irish Pub til' 9 AM (or whatever kind of mischief we shall find).  Cafe Pinot @ Maguire Garden 12noon til' my immanent death.  More Biltmore.  Gallery Bar and Cognac Room c/o Oscar.  Death be stayed off for another year.

If you don't like Ryan Adams, you probably don't like my blog either

I am lucky enough to be listening to Ryan Adams' new album, 29, right now.  I've had this album for a few days now and I am entranced.  Not only does the album offer several variances of Ryans brilliance, it once again taps the emotion of the "generation X'ers," hearkening to some of his best stuff from Heartbreaker and Rock N Roll, even some of his Whiskeytown stuff. 

Not only has Ryan Adams provided us with 2 albums so far this year, including the double disc Cold Roses, as well as Jacksonville City Nights, he offers up 29 (yes, his third full album this year).  From all the information I've gathered so far, 29 is Ryan at his purist for 2005, as The Cardinals were not tapped for this effort (as Cold Roses and Jacksonville City Nights were by Ryan Adams and The Cardinals).  29 is Ryan with guitars and piano's, and lyrics that permeate, leaving you in thought for hours after.

Not too much more to say about 29, but it available to the public on December 20.  It is a complete and utter shame if anyone reading this does not pick up this album.  Even if you hate me, even if you hate Ryan Adams (how cliche), check this album out.  I don't often pander for record sales, but this one is worth it.  If anything, it'll make a great Christmas gift.  Stream the album here on Scenestars, then Pre order it here or on the many '29' links I've provided on this page.

Three shows from the past few weeks

Been down on blogging a bit lately.  I've been busy with the holiday season and catching up with everything before I head back to NY for the holidays.  A few things of note from the past few weeks:

• Shout Out Louds at the Troubadour - great show at a great venue.  This is one of the best and most fun shows I've been to in a while.  The Troubadour is a must visit.
• Shout Out Louds at the Glass House - great band, lousy venue.  I was at the Troubadour on Friday night for Shout Out Louds, and that was by far a better show.  The Glass House doesn't even serve alcohol or beer, so one can not drown out a crappy venue.   The band was pretty good though.  Me, Shannon, Steven, and Brittany ate at the next table from the band at the 2nd Street Bistro in Pomona.  I was able to share some bathroom hijinks's with the band, much to my surprise.
• This weekend I returned to the crappy venue the Glass House to see Jimmy Eat World.  The shit hole Glass House packed em' in like sardines, but the band was great.  It is nice to see a band like Jimmy Eat World at a small venue, but I would have preferred the Troubadour or perhaps the Henry Fonda Theater.
• I've got some great stuff up for auction on eBay right now, just in time for the holidays.  Check it out and place a bid.  Search seller: thegthang.
