On the 22nd of September Shannon and I went out to The Wiltern LG to see Tenacious D and friends for a Katrina Relief Concert. 
We were lucky enough to get some great seats in the Loge. The price per ticket was high but went to a great cause. Even though I've donated to the effort before, I had no problem helping out a little more.
This was one of the best concerts that I have been to in my life. Fiona Apple lead everything off after being introduced by Jack Black, and was pretty impressive. Her new album just dropped so maybe you should check it out.
Sarah Silverman wasn't so hot, and was the actual low point for me that night. Maybe this is because I had Really high expectations for her. Oh well, after that the show was insane.
Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age and Jesse Hughes from Eagles of Death Metal led off with an acoustic Johnny Cash song, and then rocked out for 4 more songs. Jack Black dubbed them both the "Queens of Death Metal and Eagles of the Stone Age." Jack Black joined in as a stage dancer for the final song, and boy can that big man move. Perfect combination of ROCK and COMEDY.
David Cross was introduced as being at the D's first ever live show, and the fundamental discoverer of the band. David is a pure comedic genius. He had the entire place in tears with laughter. As a surprise guest, Bob Odenkirk showed up and David proclaimed the reunion a success.
Dave Grohl came out for a solo acoustic set. He said that this was one of the most rare events for fans, as he hardly ever performs these days without the band. He played "Best of You" and "Friend of a Friend." 
At the conclusion of his set Josh and Jesse came out for the best live version of CCR's "Born on the Bayou" I have ever heard. Yet another tribute to the bayou.
The D, of, course stole the show. With Jack Black and Kage stealing the stage between acts, they followed with a great performance. Most of the songs they played are from the upcoming movie "The Pick of Destiny", but they actually did a lot of stuff from the CD "Tenacious D." 
About a minute into Tenacious D's finale song Dave Grohl walked out to the drum set. This led to perhaps the best live song that I have ever heard. The intensity and excitement JB and KG couldn't hide was awesome. The song was "Double Team" and it was brilliant.
This post has been far too long, so I'll cut my praise short. The night ended with a JB and KG encouraged 'jam session' with each performer of the night. Each musician (except Fiona Apple) and comedian (including Odenkirk) came out and jammed for about 10 minutes. This show was far too good not to post about. Sorry about the delay.
