Pretty much spent the entire weekend down in Irvine at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater watching Coldplay. They put on two really good shows for the fine folks of LA. The scene both nights was complete and utter chaos as each parking lot near the facility, including the gigantic lot for Wild Rivers, were completely full. On night one Shannon and I got to the venue about 10 minutes before Coldplay went on. Suffice to say, there was absolutely no parking available. Luckily Shannon drove on Saturday so we were whisked behind the gates and actually parked about 200 feet from the entrance. Here's to being late. Gotta love it.
Judging from the crowds both nights those individuals with tickets for the lawn had it rough. I'm sure there were at least 200 people that couldn't even see the lights of the stage. I think that a bit ridiculous and the show should not have been over-sold. There were so many people leaving early from the lawn level that I was stunned. When the band came back for the encore the floodgates opened, obviously people sick of the hot, vision-less show. Honestly, there were rows of people five wide coming down to leave, at the start of a 15 minute encore.
This rant took me off topic so I'll end here. Just wish I knew why so many people couldn't even get a glimpse of the top of the stage. Many of my friends paid from $70-$100 for lawn tickets and couldn't see a thing, and promptly left early cursing the band. I personally don't ever try to deal with the lawn sections at any venue, but I can sympathize with my friends. I've never heard of things like this happening at The Greek Theater.
