On Monday I celebrated my birthday, marking another year closer to my premature expiration. I didn't really go over the top on Friday or Saturday in honor of by birthday, I kept those more on the low pro with casual drinking and some fine dining.
On Monday night (June 20) I was sponsored at Lucky Baldwins in Old Towne Pasadena. This is perhaps one of my favorite bars of all time, and there is really no other bar I would like to spend my birthday at in LA. For dinner I went all out and had their homemade Chicken Curry Pasties (which are huge) as well as a half order of Fish & Chips. Lucky's is known for their Fish & Chips, so who am I to argue, even on my birthday. With the formalities of eating out of the way, drinking was of course the main concern. Lucky's has over 63 permanent taps, and always has some sort of beer festival going on. Monday was a great day for me to start the IPA Festival. For this event there are 60 different IPA (India Pale Ale) on tap for pinting. Obviously all 60 can't be done in one day (i guess depending on the individual), so the event carries on over a week. The first pint is $5 and the glass is yours to keep and refill, for only $3 a pint. Some of the IPA's are doubles, so they charge $4 per refill. As it was my birthday I did the best I could with the IPA list, and knocked down a very hefty bunch of IPA's. The best of the night is a toss up between Anderson Valley Hot Ottin' IPA and Oggi's Stuft Pizza Torrey Pines IPA (single).
Needless to say I stumbled out of Lucky Baldwins to the warm Pasadena night with much thanks for those in attendance and a special thanks to Shannon for sponsoring most of the night, and always making sure there was something for me to drink (all that Framboise Lambic helped the buzz so much).
This weekend I have a split birthday party with my friend Tamara as we share the spotlight with many more of our friends. It'll probably be a bar where I have to drink Bud Light all night, but hey, that's where are the beautiful people go here in LA. Or maybe I'm still recovering from Monday night.
